Tecwave, a technical recruitment agency in Breda, places truck mechanics with Dutch workshops and fleet operators, but its usual channels delivered too few responses. By recruiting across the border in Portugal, it now reaches experienced mechanics who are willing to move to the Netherlands.
Too few truck mechanics in the Netherlands
Truck mechanics are scarce and the technical requirements are high, and the vacancy had been open for months. Agencies and Tecwave's own LinkedIn outreach brought in too few responses, and Tecwave had no presence yet on Facebook, Instagram or Indeed.
Recruit in Portugal and lead with the relocation package
Applyfin and Tecwave chose Portugal as the market and set up the channels from scratch: social accounts, an Indeed employer account, WhatsApp and a jobs page on Tecwave's own domain. Portuguese ads ran in six regions and led to an English landing page that puts housing, weekly pay and relocation support first. A lead form filtered on an EU passport, and after two weeks the campaign was sharpened to require real truck experience.
Cheaper applications after every adjustment
The first application came in on launch day. After the requirements were sharpened and the creatives replaced, the cost per application dropped well below the average. A talent map of truck mechanics across northern, central and southern Portugal is ready for the next round.
